Abengoa Solar
Headquartered in Lakewood, Abengoa Solar is a division of Spanish-based Abengoa.  Abengoa Solar was created in the 1990s as a new division devoted to solar research and development projects.  During that same time, Industrial Solar Technologies (IST), founded by Ken May in Golden, worked with some of the world’s best labs and institutions to improve and install solar trough systems for industrial and commercial applications.  Abengoa Solar acquired IST’s technology and, with founder Ken May, continues to develop and manufacture new soalr technologies at their headquarters in the Lakewood Technology Center.  Recently, Abengoa Solar signed a contract with Arizona Public Service Company to build the world’s largest solar plant, located 70 miles southwest of Phoenix.  The plant will use proprietary Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) trough technology and cover a surface around 1,900 acres. Abengoa Solar currently employs about 25 in the Lakewood Technology Center.   

iCast (International Center for Appropriate & Sustainable Technology) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization based in Lakewood. Their mission is to help communities use their local resources for their benefit. Their projects foster economic viability, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility in under-served communities. iCast works with local partners to develop sustainable solutions to the infrastructure and economic development needs of underserved communities. iCAST's mission is to promote sustainable development using an approach that promotes environmental stewardship, economic viability and social responsibility.
