Advise city leaders, help crime victims and more

Lakewood is looking for residents to fill vacancies on three important boards and commissions. Apply online by June 17 at Lakewood.org/GetOnBoard.

Victim Assistance Compensation Board

This opening is for a resident to serve a three-year term. The board considers requests from victims of crime for compensation, and it monitors the Victim Assistance Fund and ensures it is used in accordance with the law. Meetings are at 8 a.m. on the third Tuesday of the month.

Planning Commission

There is one opening for a four-year, at-large position for a resident who lives in Ward 1, 2, 4 or 5. The commission conducts public hearings on rezoning and subdivision applications, approves certain special use permits and reviews site plans. Commission members also serve on the Board of Adjustment. Regular meetings are at 7 p.m. the first and third Wednesdays of each month, and study sessions occur at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.

Lakewood Advisory Commission

There are several openings for this commission, which researches specific issues or topics of interest to Lakewood residents and makes recommendations to City Council for potential action on those issues. Members should plan to attend a minimum of one meeting a month. Applicants must attend both a full commission meeting and an individual committee meeting before submitting an application.
